Toby Penty stuns top seed at French International

England's Tony Penty got the main draw of the French International off to a stunning start in Orleans today when he knocked out Malaysian top seed Tan Chung Seang in straight games. The 6ft 2in Surrey left-hander, who is No. 87 in the world rankings, overpowered world No. 34 Tan 21-18 21-15 to book a second-round clash with Frenchman Lucas Claerbout later this afternoon.

Dutchman Eric Pang, the No.3 seed, and Austria's No.8 seed Michael Lahnsteiner are the big dangers in Penty's half of the draw.

Second seed Rajiv Ouseph is in action this afternoon against qualifier Ari Trisnanto of Germany. Sarah Walker is through to the second round of the women's singles after beating qualifier Anastasia Chervaykova 21-16 21-14. She will now face third seed Linda Zetchiri of Bulgaria tonight.

Marcus Ellis and Alyssa Lim are already through to the last eight of the mixed doubles, beating France's Gaetan Mittelheisser and Emilie Lefel 21-17 14-21 21-18 then knocking out team-mates Harley Towler and Helena Lewczynska 21-11 21-9. To view results click HERE
